DO NOT Use an Ouija Board or anything similar to Ouija boards as it can invite negative spirits into your home.

Spiritual presence in your home, if it occurs at all, is a rare occurrence that is usually calmer than Hollywood leads you to think. Some people believe that spirits and demons cause disturbances and fear in your home, though they also acknowledge that alleged spirits are generally harmless and easily removed. If, after careful inspection, you're still convinced that your house has some unwanted psychic or spiritual baggage, know that you have options.

Protect yourself psychically

Smudge stick

How to Know if You're a Victim of Witchcraft:

Smudge yourself and your ritual space for cleansing. Light your smudging herbs in a heatproof bowl or abalone shell. Then, use a feather or your hand to spread the smoke over your body from your head down to your feet. Next, use your feather or hand to waft the smoke around the space. Try the following smudging herbs:

Signs of Black Magic

Pray to a higher power and ask for help.

If you practice Christianity and believe in a higher power, take comfort that God is more robust and far more potent than any black magic cast upon you.

Pray, call upon this higher power for help, and trust that God will help you battle against any evil forces in your life. Pray and have faith that Jesus will protect you from any witchcraft. You might pray, “In the name of Jesus, I cast out any evil spells, energies, or intentions sent to me.” Feel free to recite the Lord’s Prayer, too.

You can also ask Archangel Michael for help.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray: and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all of the other evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen

Choose not to believe in witchcraft.

According to some spiritual experts, witchcraft is only as powerful as you allow it to be. If you’re worried that someone could be sending some black magic in your direction, repeat some soothing, confident affirmations to yourself:

Practitioners of Wicca have a Wiccan rede that is "an' ye harm none, do what ye will." Wiccans follow this strict moral creed against harming others, so if you suspect that someone is cursing you, they likely aren't Wiccan. However, other persuasions of witchcraft may have looser codes.

Call upon the prayers of your faith or use common religious prayers against spirits. There are as many different prayers to ward off evil as faiths, so choose the one that speaks most deeply. Don't underestimate this connection; use a prayer that feels useful and powerful. Some common prayers include:

The Leonine Prayers

Blessed Michael, archangel,

defend us in the hour of conflict.

Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil

(may God restrain him, we humbly pray):

and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,

by the power of God thrust Satan down to hell

and with him, those other wicked spirits

who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.

Saint Michael,

defend us in battle

that we might not perish

at the dreadful judgment.

On 29 September 1985, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, wrote to Catholic Ordinaries, recalling the need to maintain the canonical norm that exorcisms are to be performed only by select priests whom the local Ordinary has authorized, and that it is therefore illicit for other Catholics to use the formula of exorcism against Satan and the fallen angels, extracted from the one published by order of Pope Leo XIII, still less to use the integral text of this exorcism.

The exorcism formula, with its incorporated prayer to Saint Michael, was inserted into the 1898 edition of the Roman Ritual.

The 1890 Prayer to Saint Michael

O glorious Archangel St. Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, defend us in battle, and in the struggle which is ours against the principalities and Powers, against the rulers of this world of darkness, against spirits of evil in high places (Eph 6:12).

Come to the aid of men, whom God created immortal, made in his own image and likeness, and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil (Wisdom 2:23–24, 1 Cor 6:20).

Fight this day the battle of the Lord, together with the holy angels, as already thou hast fought the leader of the proud angels, Lucifer, and his apostate host, who were powerless to resist thee, nor was there a place for them any longer in Heaven. But that cruel, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil or Satan, who seduces the whole world, was cast into the abyss with all his angels (Rev 12:7–9).

Behold, this primeval enemy and slayer of man has taken courage, Transformed into an angel of light, he wanders about with all the multitude of wicked spirits, invading the earth in order to blot out the name of God and of his Christ, to seize upon, slay and cast into eternal perdition souls destined for the crown of eternal glory.

This wicked dragon pours out, as a most impure flood, the venom of his malice on men of depraved mind and corrupt heart, the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy, and the pestilent breath of impurity, and of every vice and iniquity.

These most crafty enemies have filled and inebriated with gall and bitterness the Church, the spouse of the Immaculate Lamb, and have laid impious hands on her most sacred possessions (Lam 3:15).

In the Holy Place itself, where has been set up the See of the most blessed Peter and the Chair of Truth for the light of the world, they have raised the throne of their abominable impiety, with the iniquitous design that when the Pastor has been struck, the sheep may be scattered.

Arise then, O invincible prince, bring help against the attacks of the lost spirits to the people of God, and bring them the victory.

The Church venerates thee as protector and patron; in thee holy Church glories as her defense against the malicious powers of this world and of hell; to thee has God entrusted the souls of men to be established in heavenly beatitude.

Oh, pray to the God of peace that He may put Satan under our feet, so far conquered that he may no longer be able to hold men in captivity and harm the Church.

Offer our prayers in the sight of the Most High, so that they may quickly conciliate the mercies of the Lord; and beating down the dragon, the ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, do thou again make him captive in the abyss, that he may no longer seduce the nations. Amen.

The 1902 Prayer to Saint Michael

St. Michael the Archangel, illustrious leader of the heavenly army, defend us in the battle against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the world of darkness and the spirit of wickedness in high places.

Come to the rescue of mankind, whom God has made in His own image and likeness, and purchased from Satan's tyranny at so great a price.

Holy Church venerates you as her patron and guardian. The Lord has entrusted to you the task of leading the souls of the redeemed to heavenly blessedness.

Entreat the Lord of peace to cast Satan down under our feet, so as to keep him from further holding man captive and doing harm to the Church.

Carry our prayers up to God's throne, that the mercy of the Lord may quickly come and lay hold of the beast, the serpent of old, Satan and his demons, casting him in chains into the abyss, so that he can no longer seduce the nations. Amen.

Knowing When An Exorcism is Needed:

Protect yourself by wearing religious or spiritual talismans close to you. From the St Benedict Medal to the Rosary, almost all Shrines have items and clothing used to protect the wearer from spiritual attacks. Could you make sure you choose something you have faith in? If you don't believe in it, wearing something is useless, as it is stripped of any use or power.

Keeping several items in the house can also help ward off spirits, such as crosses above the door or shrines to benevolent gods and spirits.
